(Columbia, S.C.) – The South Carolina Foundation for Educational Leadership announces a significant gift to their recent capital campaign, Building a Foundation for School Leadership.

The Foundation was formed in 1991 to support the capital improvement and programmatic needs of the South Carolina Association of School Administrators (SCASA). Today, the Foundation serves as the financial support for the recently established Center for Executive Education Leadership (CEEL). In the new state of the art leadership development facility, secured by the Foundation, school leaders from South Carolina will have a “home” to meet, collaborate, develop, and enhance their leadership skills.

Our Goal $1.25 Million $1,151,769

Chuck and Sandra Welch have bestowed a donation of $50,000 to the capital campaign, which will name the upper level lobby. They have chosen to honor the legacy of the current and past SCASA executive directors whose exemplary leadership of the association serves as a role model at the school, district, state and national levels. Dr. and Mrs. Welch state, “We are pleased to honor the current and past executive directors who have led this organization in enhancing the leadership skills and public servitude of hundreds of South Carolina school administrators.”

The Welches are longtime educators who have dedicated their lives to public education in South Carolina.  As the former chair of the Summer Leadership Institute, Chuck Welch played an integral role in creating the program, which is now called the Innovative Ideas Institute.  Sandra Welch is a former president of SCASA.  Both served as president of the Elementary Principals’ Division and have been recipients of the SCASA Lifetime Achievement Award.

"The South Carolina Foundation for Educational Leadership and Center for Executive Education Leadership (CEEL) are deeply grateful to Chuck and Sandra Welch for their generous capital campaign gift in honor of the current and past SCASA executive directors,”

says Dr. Scott Turner, Co-Chair of the capital campaign and Superintendent of Spartanburg County District Five Schools.

“Their many years of service to SCASA is legendary, and their $50,000 donation will benefit generations of future school leaders in South Carolina.”
